I have read the entire book, and am going back and looking things over more carefully. My problem is I am locked into a retirement program at work and although I can see that everything has gone up, I am not sure what a "safe" place to have your money looks like. The company I work for is up for sale, and there is a chance we will be sold within this year or the next. I know our retirement fund will be availabe to "move" but I'm not sure where it could be moved, or where the money should be put as a safe bet (I guess I need to read the end of aftershock) It's just so difficult to follow all of this as a busy working person with 2 jobs. The funds I have my money in are Lifepath 2020, T Rowe price blue chip, Putnam stable value, Europacific growth. There are other choices, but they appear to be mutual funds also. Any suggestions?

Finally, after days of research and calls to financial professionals, I found your website which defines the differences. Amazing how many CFP's don't know this stuff, which can have major consequences on someone about to retire and their ability to manage their money. Great article!
Thanks

I will be turning 55 in 2011. My last day at my current job is Sept 24 2010. I am getting a severance package and will officially be separated from my job in 2011. Does the 55 rule apply in this case?
